Bowling preps for first tournament
December 15, 2014
As the first tournament slowly approaches, the Manhattan High bowling team is beginning to prep for this year’s style of play. Part of the preparation was deciding who would start on Varsity for the guys team. The girls only have six team members this year, so all of them will be starting on Varsity.
The coaches decided to have three team captains this year to help the less-experienced bowlers improve their game. The captains included seniors Gerad Vanhoosier, Danielle Miller, and Krystyn Winiecki.
“When [the team] is doing something wrong and they can’t see what they’re doing wrong I’ll do my best to figure out what they’re doing wrong and help them try to pick up spares,” Vanhoosier said.
This year a majority of the tournaments will be played in Baker style for mat. Baker style has the team of six rotate by frame to have a cumulative one-round team score.
The team’s first tournament isn’t until after winter break.
“Hopefully everyone will practice over break, maybe we will have some team practices and just practice a lot of spare shooting,” Miller said.
The first tournament will be the Bishop Caroll invitational on Jan. 10 and will played in Baker style.
“I think that if people get out and bowl, we’ll have a better chance of doing really well in our season,” Miller said.
