Bowlers compete, place at state

Seniors Danielle Miller and Shon Eakes, along with freshman Taylor Smith competed at the state tournament for bowling. Miller shot a 461 and did not place, while Eakes shot a 632 to take twentieth and Smith shot a 581 to take seventeenth.

“Danielle was within just a few pins of her average so she bowled average, Taylor she was right about average as well,” coach Robert Regan said. “They all bowled about average.”

Having to bowl away from home proved to be a struggle.

“I think they finished very strong for the season, I think it’s hard to go down to Wichita and bowl individually like that without their team to support them so it’s a different level of bowling,” Regan said.

Despite Eakes’ finish, he had a slow start.

“I think they all did very good. Shon did very good, he started off slow and then he settled down, I think it was just nerves wanting to do good, but his second two games were better,” Regan said. “Anytime you have a competition at that level where you have all the bowlers across the state to finish top 20 of 72 is very good.”

Overall it was a good finish for the season.

“I think that anytime you can send student athletes to the state level to compete, you’re representing the school very well,” Regan said. “You have a lot of student athletes across the state that don’t make it. For these three to make it it’s quite an accomplishment.”
