Cheating and plagiarism. Those are usually one’s first thoughts (usually teachers) when the topic of chat gpt comes up. Should chat GPT be allowed for students to use? A question I think we should also be asking along with that question is, Why shouldn’t students be allowed to use those resources? Plagiarism and cheating are constantly brought up, “Oh but then students will just copy and then they won’t learn anything”. What I think those who think like this fail to see is just how resourceful Chat Gpt can be, that restrictions can be put in place to prevent cheating and plagiarism. Instead of banning Chat GPT we should be taught how we can use it as a resource and a tool to help us when we are struggling and need help on understanding something. So while I understand the concerns staff has, those worries they have can just as easily be prevented.
What I want people to understand is that Chat GPT and AI are not these horrible apps and websites made to make teachers jobs harder then they already are by helping students cheat. Chat GPT can in fact help when and if used correctly with limits and restrictions.
