Frank Sinatra is without a doubt one of the most influential musicians in history. He brought the jazz sound into popular culture and birthed many sounds in music still heard throughout all genres today. Pop artists respect him for bringing bands and performances into main culture, and even rappers respect him for his smooth sounds, complicated life, and mob ties.
His timeless hits such as “My Way” and “New York, New York” are still being shared today on social media 60 years after being recorded.
With such high expectations, does his new album “Platinum,” which celebrates his 70th anniversary of signing with Capitol Records, live up to those expectations? Yes, yes it does.
The album starts out with a personal favorite of mine called “Lean, Baby.” The melody brings a sweet smooth ride along your ears describing his dream woman. His songs are very easy to sing along to and “Lean, Baby” is no exception.
The next few tracks such as “I’ve Got The World On A String” and “Young At Heart” are slow songs that contrast the upbeat start. I personally like his more upbeat songs more, and would not add these to my playlist.
Some of the songs on this album I added instantly to my playlist, such as the previously mentioned “Lean, Baby” and others like “You Make Me Feel So Young” (made famous by the movie Elf), “Where Are You?” “Oh! Look At Me Now,” and “Nice ‘n’ Easy.”
Everyone will be able to find something they enjoy in this album as it’s two hours long and filled with 44 songs.
