After a 61-48 loss to Hayden, the Lady Indians look forward to the Sub-State tournament this week.
In the first round the Lady Indians will face Topeka High, who they throttled 55-21 on Dec. 13.
Even though they left the regular season on a three-game losing streak, senior Maxine Doering is looking forward to the postseason and has high hopes about going deep in the playoffs.
“I think the key for us to make a deep run at State would be to execute off of the steals and turnovers we cause, and not allow those to to be empty possessions or turnovers for us,” Doering said. “Also to just stay composed and play as one. Recognize where the game is at and understand our situation.”
Those empty possessions will be especially important in the playoffs; during the regular season, the team lost many close games within 1 or 2 possessions. Moreover, many of these close games were against top-ranked teams in the state (Washburn, Emporia, etc). The potential for a deep run is clear.
If the Lady Indians get the win vs Topeka High, they will likely face 3-seed Liberal High. A win against Liberal would clinch a State tournament berth for the Lady Indians.
