Quill and Scroll held their annual induction candle lighting ceremony in Manhattan High School’s Alumni Room.
Quill and Scroll, an honor society for students who excel in both journalism and academics, had been looking forward to their ceremony for quite a long time.
Gabby Turner, president of Quill and Scroll, emphasized that in order to be inducted, you need to “have good academic prowess and good journalism merit.”
Like in National Honor Society, in order to be inducted, one needs to have an excellent GPA, that is 3.0 or above. They also do volunteer work, similar to NHS. However, the club is exclusive to student journalists of all grades, unlike organizations similar to NHS.
Senior Eli Porter accepted the invitation to join, in order that he could add the recognition to his resume in preparation for his college and career plans: continuing in broadcast journalism.
“I think it’s like a cool thing to be a part of,” Porter said. “I work hard on grades and journalism.”
Students such as Turner look forward to inducting the new students.
“We get to congratulate them for all their work,” Turner said before the ceremony. “[We’re] excited to see all the new members.”
