The 2023-2024 Manhattan High Boys Golf season is officially underway with both teams practicing for their first tournament on Thursday, April 4, at the Wamego Country Club.
Last year, the Varsity team ended the season with a win at the Regional tournament, and a sixth place finish, making day 2 of the State tournament.
“We always have three goals,” Coach Brad Ficke said. “One is to win League, one is to qualify for State, and because they made State a two-day event, the next goal then is to qualify for the second day as a team.”
This season, the team has three seniors on the varsity line up, Owen Kandt, Gage Hull and Miles Braxmeyer, with Braxmeyer being injured.
“I won’t lie, Miles Braxmeyer isn’t available to play this season due to a basketball injury, and he is a three-year letterman,” Ficke said. “But we also have one junior, Tate Reid, and the rest of Varsity are sophomores.”
After the first meet of the season in Wamego, the golf team will have their only home Varsity meet on April 8 at Manhattan Country Club.
