Manhattan Varsity softball had a double-header at Lawerence High on Friday, where MHS lost 6-8 in the first game, and lost 5-6 in the second.
“We did good. It was our first time out so we were just knocking the rust off of some things,” Junior Isabelle Peabody said. “I’m really excited this season and I know that we will do great in our upcoming games.”
The team’s next game was away yesterday in Great Bend, where they played against Great Bend and McPherson.
“I think we did pretty good. Our first game was kind of rough but our second game was a lot closer. We had a good battle,” freshman Gracyn Neitzel said. “I think I played pretty good. With our pitching I got a lot of balls out there so it was exciting out there.”
The Manhattan team includes seven returning seniors: Jaden McGee, Taylor Riffel, Kailey Wetherington, Mckenzie Reid, Macey Pecenka, Anna Wollenburg and Reagan Neitzel, who recently committed to Johnson County Community College. Junior Haiden Gaither and sophomores Kat Ball and Keylee Schartz are also returning.
“I’m not really upset that we played badly, we just made a few small errors. I think we probably could have tried to get more of our hits together, ” Mcgee said. “We got a lot of people on base. If we got more people hitting that would have helped us out. I feel like I needed to go out a little bit harder in the first inning. I feel like I recovered pretty well.”
Friday, Mar 29, Manhattan has their first home game against Topeka High at the Twin Oaks Complex.
