Bishop Stadium is the home to many athletic and non-athletic events at Manhattan High School. Now, it will also be home to a brand-new, state-of-the-art video board.
Earlier this month, USD 383 accepted funds from private donors in the Manhattan community for a $328,715 video/audio board.
“We hope to have full use of it at the beginning of the ‘25-’26 school year, and it may come earlier,” principal Michael Dorst said.
Sports teams including Manhattan High football, soccer, track and field, cheerleading and dance, as well as music groups like the Big Blue Marching Band who play or perform at Bishop will now get their performances magnified for a larger audience to see.
The video board, made by a company called Daktronics, will be positioned on the opposite side of the field of the existing scoreboard at Bishop.
“It’s going to be relatively close to the locker rooms,” Reid said.
Ultimately, the jumbotron-style display will enhance the experience of Manhattan High events and provide new learning opportunities for students.
“I believe it adds so much to the Manhattan High School student and fan and community member and even visitor experience because of all the different organizations that it involves,” Dorst said.
The video board could also give Manhattan High students a new opportunity for livestreaming and creating videos and graphics.
“I appreciate the community support for raising the money for it,” USD 383 superintendent Eric Reid said. “But I also think it’ll be a good educational opportunity for some of our CTE programs as well.”
Career and Technical Education is the education program that gives students hands-on experience and skill-building in career fields.
“The hope is that Video Production will be involved somehow,” CTE director Christopher Holborn said.
Video Production is one of the many CTE courses at MHS, in the Media Communications pathway. Video Production livestreams sporting and non-sporting events for the MHS Student Media YouTube channel.
“[The video board] adds another whole layer into just livestreaming,” Holborn said.
