You know normal basketball, but do you know what 3-on-3 basketball is? A group of Manhattan High School students have taken it upon themselves to host their basketball intramural .
“I think it’s a unique idea to do the 3-on-3 and everybody is just having fun,” junior Levin Nickerson said. “It’s a really fun thing to do.”
The 3-on-3 league was started and run by seniors Eric Tiede and Carter Aslin. With the help of Aslin’s dad working at Eisenhower Middle School, the league is able to play at the main gym at EMS. For this to work every player had to sign a waiver to play. Each team is allowed four players and a coach and had to pay the $40 admission fee that went into a pot of $560 for the winner of the league. The league consists of seven regular season weeks with everyone making a double-elimination playoff. During the weeks teams get together to practice and prepare for their games. Some teams have shown out in the first few weeks as favorites to win the championship.
“I believe Creamsicles will win,” Nickerson said. “That team is really dynamic and they know what they’re doing,”
The games are quick and fun. It is entertaining and you can make new friends.
“I like that it has short games,” senior Tanner Lang said. “It keeps it intense.”
In 3-on-3 you have to be aware of everything, but you can become more used to it.
“Other than that it’s really fun,” Nickerson said. “You get to see all your friends there too.”
