As of March 3, the girls swim and dive season has officially started. Leading up to the season starting, this year’s captains, seniors Ellyn Campbell, Amanda Lohrentz and Sam Tarter, decided to host pre-season conditioning in the weight room after school, the week before the season to hopefully get to know some of the new and returning swimmers this season.
“As seniors who have all been on the team since our freshman year we all know what we do best and what will benefit our team,” Tarter said “We decided to do the conditioning because we truly want to the best we can as individuals and as a team, we really are just going to try our best and put what we have into what we do.”
This year’s captains are truly trying to do the most they can to give the team the best workouts at practice to swim the best they can. Something this year that has changed is having dryland practice on Saturday mornings.
“Being a captain feels like a culmination of all my efforts and a gateway to inspire the same passion I have for the sport in others,” Tarter said “Our team has been doing a lot of rebuilding, so our main goal is to help raise dedicated athletes who feel drawn to return and bring in new swimmers.”
Aside from wanting to place at meets, another one of the goals the team has is to get closer. The team has a mix of returning and experienced swimmers to newcomers testing out the waters, this mix creates a dynamic atmosphere at practice.
“I hope to see the team grow a lot and do well at League. Everyone on the team is really lovely and I’m really excited to get to know a lot of the newer girls,” senior Kenna Mason said.
