Adrian Lyles, an artist known for being a part of the creation of the “High School Musical” music creates yet another song but not for Disney. Lyles’ new song “King of Everything” brings many different aspects to music. The genre according to apple music is alternative.
The song starts off really slow with just lyrics and a guitar in the background. Lyles then proceeds to change the way he sings into a more lyrical swinging of the words. There is some echo effect to the vocals as well that just fills the space a bit more. The beat becomes more clear through the song because the guitar starts to strum harder on the down beat. After the build up finally the song lets loose and drums come in and there is a lot to take in. The lyrics speed up and the beat changes to something a bit faster. But once it builds up it then goes to just vocals and guitar for the last little bit of the song.
The build up just takes so long to finally hit it makes it feel slow. The big part should also have lasted longer. I just found myself sad when the song suddenly ended after the big hit. The hit should’ve lasted a little longer or could have had more time during the hit.
“King of Everything” is a building song, where it starts off with basically nothing and builds throughout with many different pieces added to it after time. The drums only appear at the end otherwise it is mostly just a vocals and guitar piece. This can be disappointing to some listeners but also can be very appealing to some country listeners. It has a good mix of everything and is a good attempt at being a song for everyone to enjoy because of such a variety of genres. Apple music has this single listed as an Alternative.
The lyrics are very repetitive but also a bit confusing to me. The song talks about being hated and being saved but they dont save him. Lyles then sings about being better than what others thought and what he thought. The lyrics then goes into wanting to grow up. Their lyrics seem like a bunch of insecurities that the singer has. My understanding is that the song is in the perspective of a people pleaser wanting to be perfect for everyone and wanting to know how to do it.
I would recommend this song if you enjoy something slow paced along with a hint of a big hit. But if you are a hard rock person you might be displeased by this song with how slow it is. I personally only enjoy the last 30 seconds of the song when the high point hits. Otherwise I think the song is too slow and could use more drums in the build up.
