Girls tennis swings into new season
September 14, 2015
As the season starts to heat up and the weather cools, girl’s varsity tennis kicked the season off with three wins so far.
“We’ve been a part of a duel and a couple of quads tournament,” coach Tony Ingram said. “Right now, for me as a new coach, [I’m] teaching them routines and teaching them expectations.”
With winning second in two squad tournaments, and first in the quad against Topeka High, the team looks forward to start getting more competition.
“I have high hopes for this season,” senior Cathy Lei said. “This year we’re stronger both technique-wise and just how we mesh together.”
The team continues to improve and work on their skills.
“I feel like everyone has been playing well,” senior Tracy Le said. “They’ve been working really hard and improving a lot. I feel like I have improved a lot from the last season, even though I haven’t won that many matches yet, but I’m working on it.”
As well as playing and practicing with each other, the team hopes to land a good spot in Regionals with the help of the new coach this year.
“He’s really great,” Le said. “I think he knows what he wants to do, and he gives great advice. We have a really strong team and I’m really excited to play doubles with my partner,” Le said. “I really like the rides in the vans… and it’s just a really great experience.”
The team became close quickly and looks forward to start winning.
“I think we have the potential of being a competitive team,” Ingram said. “I would like to finish in the top three.”
