Trevor Hudgins doesn’t like to lose.

So when the Manhattan High boys basketball team dropped a 57-53 decision to Wichita East at the Tournament of Champions Friday in Dodge City, he responded emphatically in the third-place game the next day.

The junior totaled 16 points and six assists in the Indians’ 70-53 win over Maize on Saturday, securing the team a third-place finish and an exit from the tournament with an 11-1 record on the season.

“They pressed early in the fourth, and so I knew their bigs were slower than us, so [I] just blew past them,” Hudgins said. “Tried to feed people, try to get some easy looks.”

Over the course of the three-day tournament, Hudgins finished with 36 points and 13 assists, bringing his per-game averages to 10 and 5.2, respectively.

The Indians hit the road Saturday to take on Emporia.
