Thespians kick off new school year with party
August 27, 2014
The Manhattan High Thespians had their kick-off party Friday after school. Both returning and new Thespians attended.
The party in
Auditorium started out with a short introduction of the Thespian officers as well as an outline of the afternoon. The Thespian officers said they are searching for a freshman Thespian representative. Current officers will interview interested freshman today after school. The Thespian officers expressed their anticipation for the upcoming year.
“I’m excited for the new year. It’ll be good,” sophomore Isaac Sorell said.
Attendees ate and then went to booths about different aspects of the Thespian club.
Later, the students went into the foyer and played a group “improv” game in which they take turns improvising parts of the same story. Those who hesitate or otherwise cannot continue the story are given a creative way in which they have to act out their pretend death. The game is aptly called “Story to Death.”
The students then returned to Rezac stage for dancing and intermingling.
“It’s a diverse club; we have lots of different people from all of the high school,” senior Levi Jones, Thespian club historian, said.
“Not only do you learn what an amazing art form acting is, you meet so many amazing people. It’s like a second family,” junior Toula Sweeney, Thespian vice-president, said.
Students can sign up for Thespians during club sign-up. The registration fee is $2.
