Soccer kicks off year with scrimmage
August 28, 2014
Friday afternoon at Bishop Stadium, 22 Varsity players and 22 Junior Varsity players hit the field to kick off the 2014 soccer season with the annual alumni game.
Because most eligible alumni are usually gone to college by this time of year, the alumni game is Varsity vs. Varsity, Varsity vs. Junior Varsity, and then Junior Varsity vs. Junior Varsity; like any other scrimmage related game the teams were separated by colors blue and white.
Varsity blue went up against Varsity white, white winning 1-0, the goal being scored by junior Kirkland Lambert off of a cross. Varsity white vs. Junior Varsity blue, Varsity white won 5-0.
“I thought we had a good night, we distributed the ball well and made very good decisions on the ball,” attacking midfielder junior Austin French said.
“We are a young team, made up of mostly juniors, but I am expecting another great year,” French said about his team.
The team had good support from their friends and families in the crowd. Their next appearance is the regular scrimmage this Friday at Bishop Stadium.
